Firm permits are renewed separately from individual CPA licenses (Md. Code Ann., Bus. Occ. & Prof. § 2-407, 'Term and renewal of permit') on a fixed 2-year term expiring on the first December 31 that comes after the permit's effective date, always falling in an even-numbered year -- the identical anniversary-based structure Maryland uses for individual CPA licenses (§ 2-311). Because every firm's cycle is defined to land on an even year at its very FIRST expiration, and adding 2 years to an even year always stays even, every firm converges onto the identical December 31/even-year date going forward regardless of when it originally registered -- one shared date applies to every firm today, not a per-firm anniversary.
