Kansas CPA License Reinstatement: What a Lapsed License Costs

If your Kansas CPA license has already lapsed

What it actually takes to get a lapsed Kansas CPA license back — the fee, the catch-up CPE, and exactly what triggers "lapsed" in the first place. Sourced the same way every fact on this site is: a board page, plus the codified rule itself where we could confirm it against primary law, clearly labelled where we could only confirm it against the board's own page, never a guess.

Reinstatement Fee
$247.50

K.A.R. 74-12-1(e): $247.50 if more than one year remains in the current biennial period at application time, or $123.75 if one year or less remains.

Catch-Up CPE Required
  • 40 CPE hours 40 hours of qualifying CE completed within the 12 months preceding the reinstatement application (K.S.A. 1-310(g)) -- half the normal 80-hour/2-year total, but concentrated into one year. These hours cannot also be counted toward the next renewal (K.A.R. 74-4-10).
  • 2 ethics hours, within that total.
Source of record K.S.A. 1-310(g) (reinstatement trigger, 40-hour CPE requirement); K.A.R. 74-12-1(e) (fee schedule); K.A.R. 74-4-10 (2-hour ethics component) read the rule →

What triggers lapsed status: Permit expires biennially on the next July 1 after issuance/renewal. Late renewal is possible within 12 months of expiration; beyond 12 months, formal reinstatement (not simple late renewal) is required.

Always confirm with the official state board before relying on this date. License requirements and deadlines can change.
