Connecticut CPA License Reinstatement: What a Lapsed License Costs
If your Connecticut CPA license has already lapsed
What it actually takes to get a lapsed Connecticut CPA license back — the fee, the catch-up CPE, and exactly what triggers "lapsed" in the first place. Sourced the same way every fact on this site is: a board page, plus the codified rule itself where we could confirm it against primary law, clearly labelled where we could only confirm it against the board's own page, never a guess.
Regs. Conn. State Agencies §20-280-25(g) requires paying 'the current year's renewal fee' to reinstate a license lapsed more than 90 days (and up to 3 years) -- that fee is set by statute at $565: CGS Sec 20-281d(g) pegs it to the Class I professional services fee, and CGS Sec 33-182l sets Class I at $565.
- 40 CPE hours 40 hours of CPE earned in the single year immediately preceding the reinstatement application (rather than spread over the normal cycle).
- 4 ethics hours, within that total.
What triggers lapsed status: Licenses expire annually on December 31; a late application is accepted through January 31. If not received by February 1, the license lapses. Lapsed 90 days or less: reinstate by simple application. Lapsed more than 90 days but less than 3 years: reinstate at the department's discretion on the fee + 40-hour CPE terms above. Lapsed 3+ years: must apply for an entirely new license.
